About Spring & Cable Repair

Your Door's Springs and Cables Do the Heavy Lifting

A garage door is one of the heaviest moving objects in your home, often weighing well over 200 pounds. The springs counterbalance that weight, and the cables keep the whole system controlled and aligned.

When either part fails, the door can become impossible to open or, worse, fall unexpectedly. That is why fast, correct spring and cable repair is not just about convenience. It is about safety.

Our technicians replace broken springs and cables using premium, high-cycle parts rated for thousands of open and close cycles. We check the entire system while we are there to ensure everything is aligned, balanced, and safe to use.

What We Repair

Complete Spring and Cable Services

Every part of the spring and cable system is inspected and replaced using premium components rated for long-term performance.

Torsion Spring Replacement

Torsion springs mount above the door and handle the bulk of the weight. We replace them in pairs using high-cycle parts.

Extension Spring Replacement

Extension springs stretch along the sides of the door. We replace them with heavy-duty parts and safety cables.

Cable Replacement

Frayed or snapped lift cables are dangerous. We install new galvanized steel cables rated for years of use.

Drum Replacement

Worn cable drums cause uneven winding and can lead to cable failure. We replace drums along with new cables.

Spring & Cable Tune-Up

If your system is aging, we can inspect and lubricate springs, cables, and drums to extend their lifespan.

Two Main Spring Types

Which System Does Your Door Use?

Most residential garage doors use one of these two systems. Knowing which one you have helps us prepare the right parts before we arrive.

Torsion Springs

Torsion springs are mounted horizontally above the center of the door and twist to lift the door. They are known for being quieter, longer-lasting, and safer to operate when properly maintained. Torsion springs are typically replaced in pairs so the door stays balanced.

Extension Springs

Extension springs stretch along the upper tracks on each side of the door. They are common on older homes and are typically paired with safety cables that prevent dangerous snap-back if a spring fails. We always install new safety cables with every extension spring replacement.

Frequently Asked

Spring and Cable Questions

Answers to the questions we hear most often about spring and cable repair.

How do I know if my spring is broken or just worn?
A broken spring usually has a visible gap of two inches or more in the coil. A worn spring may still look intact but the door will feel much heavier than usual, open unevenly, or require the opener to strain. If you are unsure, a professional inspection is the safest way to confirm.
Should I replace both springs at the same time?
Yes. Springs are installed as a matched pair and wear at the same rate. If one has broken, the other is likely near the end of its life too. Replacing both at the same time keeps the door balanced and prevents a second service call within weeks.
How long do springs and cables typically last?
Standard springs are rated for around 10,000 cycles (roughly 7 to 10 years of typical use). High-cycle springs we install can last two to three times longer. Cables usually last as long as the springs but can fray earlier if the system is unbalanced or poorly lubricated.
Can I open my door with a broken spring?
We strongly recommend leaving the door closed and calling us for repair. Forcing the door up manually with a broken spring can damage the opener, bend the tracks, and create a safety hazard. If the door must be opened for an emergency, we can help guide you safely over the phone.
Do you warranty your springs and cables?
Yes. All springs and cables we install are covered by their manufacturer warranties, and the labor is backed by our own workmanship warranty. If anything fails within the warranty period, we will make it right.
